Thursday 10th - bike ***** - Felixstowe to Waldringfield – sunny periods and warm.

Our original plan was to go for an early morning bike ride for breakfast somewhere, perhaps taking in the sunrise but I was a wake at 5.30 and it didn’t look great, a little chilly too so decided to give that a miss. So, as it was going to be a nice day with light winds, we decided to pack a picnic and go out for lunch with Mag picking Waldringfield on the River Deben as the destination. That meant time for exercises in the garden while Mag did some planting up in her new borders before I made lunch. Leaving home around 11.30 we went through our tree lined route towards Levington coming out at Trimley St Martin, crossing the A 14 to Kirton we turned down to Kirton Creek. Then along the nice footpath up to Hemley Church and onto Waldringfield as the sun returned. We walked past the Maybush Pub along the small beach and sat in an old boat near the sailing club for our yummy salad and watched the river action. Several yachts were making their way down river with a couple of paddle boarders going the other way but as with the whole ride today it was nice and quiet:) Then across the fields back to Hemley and down to Kirton Creek again. Now the start of the 5-mile bumpy ride along the river path always enough to have you seeing double! We had a large bird of prey, possibly a Marsh Harrier circling above us as we passed Ramsholt, we had the usual Kestrel but the highlight of the ride was a Hobie acrobatically catching dragonflies, very impressive flying:) We were relived to reach Felixstowe Ferry as were getting knackered, then along the coast path by the golf course and back onto the road at The Dip and home through town. We had been out four and a half hours covering over 21 miles so a long ride for us. Never was a cuppa and homemade biscuit more welcome when we got home! I have my fingers crossed for a few days of foiling from tomorrow, warm too:)
